Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is used to address illnesses or injuries that limit your ability to move and perform functional activities in your day to day life. It commonly includes assistance with specific exercises, various manual therapies, and manipulation of the muscle tissue. Other additions to treatment include devices such as mechanical traction, as well as neuro re-education, and the use of heat, cold, electrical stimulation andultrasound.

How long will my appointment take?

You can estimate about an hour for your physical therapy appointment, but treatments vary from patient to patient and treatment plans will change along the way. Please inform your therapist if you have time constraints that we may need to work around.

What should I wear to my appointments?

It is best to wear something you are comfortable in such as t-shirt and loose pants or shorts. There may be moments where the therapist might ask you to roll up sleeves or pant legs in order to perform certain treatments as well. If you are unsure whether your attire is appropriate feel free to ask your therapist during your evaluation!

Do I need a doctor's referral for physical therapy?

Yes, per mandates in the state of Texas physical therapists require a doctor's orders or prescription to begin physical therapy treatment.

How many times do I need to come to physical therapy?

The referring doctor as well as the therpaist will determine how frequently you should be attending physical therapy. It can range from once a week to three times a week depending on the orders and the therapist's evaluation of your diagnosis. In order to see the best results though it's important that you stay as consistent as possible with your treatment both in and out of the clinic!

Do you provide occupational therapy? Are they the same thing?

While there are similarities between the two fields, there are differences that require specific orders for either physical therapy or occupational therapy. There are some clinics that can provide both, but here at our clinics we specify in outpatient physical therapy only.

What equipment is available at your location?

All three of our clinics have mechanical traction, electrical stimulation & ultrasound machines, as well as various stationary bikes. We provide weights and resistance bands as well. Other equipment may vary depending on the clinic so if there is something specific you are looking for please ask our staff!

Do you provide Home Health?

Unfortunately, we do not provide home health physical therapy. Our clinics only provide outpatient physical therapy at our clinic locations.
